Posting to Open Chat

Now let’s post something to Open Chat.

Timeline, Following and Followers

Those are familiar words for anyone using social networking services such as Twitter, but let’s define them just in case.

Timeline

On the Timeline, everyone’s comments are arranged in order of the most recent at the top.
It will be a place to share business information, such as

  • Reporting ・ communication ・ consultation
  • Announcing occurrence of issues
  • Wisdom ・ knowledge ・ know-how
  • “I was able to close the contract!” “Good!”

Following and Follower

“Follow” means something like a subscription.
Once you are followed, your posts are displayed on the Timeline of the people who follow you.

A Follower means people who follow you.

Anyway, try posting a message

  1. Click on Open Chat at the top of the window
An Open Chat page opens on a separate tab
  2. Enter a comment
  3. Click on “Post”

You may post anything, except sudden accusations of an in-house cheating scandal.

Boom!
Mervin has posted a message to the Timeline.

By the way, who can see this message?

Since Mervin selected “Follower” when posting, his message will be displayed on the Timeline of his followers.
Follower?
Whoops, no one has followed him. That’s right, nobody would read his message in this case.
If there are followers…
In this case, Katherine is following Mervin.
Katherine’s Timeline shows the comment like in this image.
You can upload an image for the User icon in Account Settings.

To follow others

  • Click on Add in Following
  • Click on the [Follow] button of the person you want to follow in the list

You will immediately be added as a follower.

Crying out love in the center of the company

Then, what if Mervin posts to a specific Company name(*) …
*(*) The company name registered upon applying for the service has been set as the default.

Now, all staff members know that he loves Katherine.
Organizations which have been set up in the Organization list in System Settings can be selected.

Posting to a specific Organization

Then, what if he post to a specific Organization?

In this case, the message is shown on the Timelines of the members of the Customer Service Department,  including subordinate organizations.

When you post to a specific Organization, the message is displayed on the Timeline of members belonging to the specified organization and its subordinate organizations.

Send a message to more than one Organization

If you insert %[Organization name] in your message, the members of that Organization will also be the target of the post.
In this case, the message is shared with the members of Customer Service and the General Affairs Division.

It has a function which displays a list of candidates when you start typing an Organization name after % (percent sign).

Very helpful.

% must be the single-byte character.

Posting to a designated individual

If you insert @[User name] you can post a message to a designated User.
However in this case, his message is also shown on the Timelines of his Followers.
As with Organization names, it displays candidates when you start typing following @.
If a message is sent with @[User name] it is displayed on the Timeline of that User.

By clicking on @Me in the left menu, a User can filter messages in which @[her/his name] or %[their Organization] has been inserted and display them in a list.

Every message is NOT confidential.

It doesn’t mean that users who are not tagged in a post are unable to see it.
It still appears in search results, and…

Every user can search messages posted by another User by selecting them.

Even though you can post to specific Organizations or Users, it is also a barrierless community in which everyone in the company can search and see all messages.

Open Chat may not be appropriate for talking about love.
